Home Alone house sold for $1.58m

The Chicago house featured in the 1990 comedy Home Alone has been sold for $1.58m (£1m). With 14 rooms, three storeys and a location in Winnetka, a sought-after village 16 miles north of the Windy City and just minutes from Lake Michigan, the property's owners had hoped to sell it for $2.4m (£1.53m) when the house went on the market 10 months ago. However, they settled on Thursday for the substantially lower price. The buyer has not been identified.

Sigourney Weaver, having previously played a First Lady on the big screen in Dave, is heading back into the political arena as the star of Political Animals, a series debuting on USA Network this summer.

Produced by Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money) and Laurence Mark (Jerry Maguire), the six-hour series finds Weaver playing Elaine Barrish, a divorced former First Lady who immerses herself in her new job as Secretary of State as she rebounds from the dissolution of her marriage and losing the presidential nomination.

Johansson in The Making Of Psycho

As Sacha Gervasi gears up to bring a chunk of cinematic history to life with Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho, he’s locked down two stars to play the most iconic elements (besides Hitch himself) for the film-within-the-film: Scarlett Johansson will be Janet Leigh and James D’Arcy is playing Anthony Perkins.

The Making Of Psycho chronicles the legendary director’s struggle to get the horror classic made at a time when the genre was frowned upon and he was ridiculed for even trying his hand at the idea.

Top Chef won $125 000

It was last-supper time for Paul Qui and Sarah Grueneberg tonight on Top Chef: Texas.

The season nine finalists were tasked with the usual challenge: cook the best four-course meal of their careers for a panel of particular palates—and, like last season, restaurants full of people.

Paul and Sarah (and four sous chefs apiece) took over the kitchens of Vancouver restaurants Coast and Black & Blue, respectively, to get the job done. As tends to be the case, neither made huge mistakes...But only one was sitting particularly tall in the saddle by night's end.

Lucy Liu to Play Watson

CBS' Sherlock Holmes pilot, Elementary, will indeed be a modern take on the famed story.

For the first time, Holmes' famed sidekick, Watson, will be played by a woman with Lucy Liu nabbing the part, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Described as a modern take on the cases of Sherlock Holmes, with the detective now living in New York City, Dexter killer Jonny Lee Miller has been tapped to star in the project.

Liu's casting continues the Charlie's Angels co-star's return to the small screen with the actress currently appearing on TNT's Southland.

Meryl Streep won again!

With her Oscar win for "The Iron Lady," Meryl Streep has joined a decidedly elite club, becoming only the fifth actor to win three Oscars.

Katharine Hepburn won four, and Walter Brennan, Ingrid Bergman and Jack Nicholson have three apiece.

Streep appeared stunned when her named was called Sunday. Viola Davis had been viewed by many as the likely winner for "The Help."

"When I heard my name, I could hear half of America going, 'Oh, no! Not again! Her!' But whatever!" Streep said from the stage.

Sacha Baron Cohen banned?

The mystery of Sacha Baron Cohen's plans for the Oscars has deepened, with the Academy going on the record to deny an online report that the comic actor has had his tickets for Hollywood's biggest event yanked.

"We haven't banned him," an Academy spokesperson tells The Hollywood Reporter. "We're just waiting to hear what he's going to do."

Still, the Academy is making it clear that Cohen is not welcome to use the red carpet as a platform for a promotional stunt for his upcoming movie The Dictator, and other sources say the threat of booting him became more substantial on Wednesday.
